The Council has a planned programme to maximise its office estate and support efficient and effective service delivery. The New Dumbarton Office, currently being delivered for the Council by Hub West Scotland and main contractors Lendlease, is a key part of this.

On completion, the new building will provide modern workspace for over 500 staff as well as new civic and public spaces within the Town Centre.

This £15.4 million project includes works to the Grade A listed façade of the Old Academy Building, which are supported by a £500,000 grant from Historic Environment Scotland.

The building can be considered in two zones:

• the front area which connects to the Grade A listed façade, and creates the new public meeting areas, civic space and training rooms
• the back office areas which provide modern office space with a variety of work settings including; open plan areas, meeting rooms, break out areas and tea points.

The back office areas are expected to be complete as planned in December.

Works to integrate the new structure with the historic façade have proven challenging, although this is not uncommon with buildings of this age, and as such have taken longer than anticipated.

Practical Completion of the building will now be achieved in February, with staff moving and the building operational from March.

At present over 110 construction operatives are on site daily, working throughout the building, and working weekends where possible.

The project team including OD & Change will work with services to plan the relocation to the New Dumbarton Office in March 2018.

The moves are planned over four weekends to minimise disruption to day to day business.

The sequence will be agreed with managers, and will take into account financial year end, service delivery, front of house requirements, and business continuity.
